About a quarter of homes have been built since 2000, well above average, so composite doors and cavity walls are common.
The historic city
Winchester's centre, around the cathedral and the High Street, is a conservation area with many listed homes. Consent is needed to alter their original doors or walls. Many Victorian terraces nearby have rear doors that suit a cat flap.
Newer homes
Newer developments around the city usually have composite or uPVC doors and cavity walls. If your door is under warranty, a wall flap may be the better option. Part of the district lies in the South Downs National Park.
