Cat Flap & Dog Flap Installation in London

We offer cat flap, dog flap and pet door installation in homes across Greater London, from Victorian terraces and garden flats to modern apartments with glazed balcony doors. London homes often need a little more planning, because flats, leases and conservation areas can all affect where a pet flap can go.

Homes and doors in London

Much of London's housing is Victorian and Edwardian terraces, many of which have been converted into flats. Rear garden doors on ground-floor flats are often a practical place for a cat flap, whether in a timber or uPVC door or in a glazed panel that needs a replacement sealed unit.

In purpose-built blocks and converted houses, the front door of each flat is usually a fire door. A fire door must not have a pet flap cut into it, because that would compromise its fire resistance. If your only route outside is a flat entrance door, we'll talk you through safer alternatives, such as a rear door, a window or a wall.

Permissions to check before installation

If you own a leasehold flat, your lease will often require the freeholder's or managing agent's written consent before you alter external doors, windows or walls. It's worth checking before you book.

London has hundreds of conservation areas, and some boroughs use Article 4 directions that control changes to front doors and windows facing the street. Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council for alterations that affect their character. Fitting a flap to a rear door or a replacement glass unit is often more straightforward, but check with your borough if you're unsure.

If you rent your home, get your landlord's written permission first. We can't give planning advice for a specific property, but we're happy to explain the options so you can ask the right questions.

Parking and access

Many London streets are in controlled parking zones. If you can arrange a visitor parking permit, or let us know about loading restrictions and access to rear gardens, the installation day goes more smoothly.
