What the official figures mean for fitting a pet flap. Figures are for the Yeovil parliamentary constituency (2024 boundaries), which includes the town and nearby areas. These are area-wide figures, so your own home may be quite different. We'll always look at your actual door, glass or wall.
29%
of homes are detached houses
England average: 22.9%
Almost three in ten homes are detached, above average, often giving a choice of door or wall.
Hamstone cottages
Older cottages in villages such as Montacute and Stoke-sub-Hamdon are built from hamstone with thick walls and are often listed. A door installation is usually better than cutting the stone.
Town homes
Terraces and semis in Yeovil itself usually suit a flap in the back door or a cavity wall in newer homes.

Questions from homeowners in Yeovil
Can a cat flap go through a hamstone wall?
Yes, with an extended tunnel, but a door is usually easier, and listed cottages need consent.
I rent. Can I have a cat flap?
Only with your landlord's written permission. A flap in a replaceable door panel is often the easiest to agree.
Who handles planning?
