of households live in flats
England average: 20.6%
A third of households live in flats, well above average. Flat front doors in shared blocks are fire doors.
Seafront flats
In purpose-built blocks along the seafront, each flat's front door is a fire door. Ground-floor flats with a garden or patio door may have an option, with the freeholder's or management company's consent. Coastal homes benefit from a corrosion-resistant, well-sealed flap.
Bungalows and semis
Suburbs such as Goring, Durrington and Findon Valley have many bungalows and semis with cavity walls, where a wall flap into a kitchen or utility room is often ideal.

Questions from homeowners in Worthing
Can I have a flap in a seafront retirement flat?
Not in the front door. Check your lease and the building rules for any ground-floor garden door.
I rent. Can I have a cat flap?
Only with your landlord's written permission. A flap in a replaceable door panel is often the easiest to agree.
