What the official figures mean for fitting a pet flap. Figures are for Chichester District Council's area, which is largely rural. These are area-wide figures, so your own home may be quite different. We'll always look at your actual door, glass or wall.
35.6%
of homes are detached houses
England average: 22.9%
Over a third of homes in the district are detached, so a side door or wall is often available.
The Georgian centre
The city centre is a conservation area with many listed Georgian buildings. Original front doors shouldn't be altered without consent; a rear door is usually the better option.
Harbour and Downs
Chichester Harbour is a National Landscape, and the northern part of the district lies in the South Downs National Park, which has its own planning authority. Homes near the harbour benefit from a well-sealed, corrosion-resistant flap.

Most rear-door flaps don't, but listed buildings do.
Who handles planning?
Chichester District Council, or the South Downs National Park Authority inside the park.
